Sh*t I Like

So, months and months later, I return once again with another completely random installment of shit I like. Since my last shit I like post, there's been literally a ton of shit i like rolling around on the web. Quite frankly, there always is. I guess that's why this was supposed to be more than just a random installment. Ah well. I digress ....

Digsby

There's a lot of controversy surrounding Digsby these days. I for one am not easily swayed by easily deniable optional choices (though I realize that many of the average members of John Q. Internet are). Therefore, the opt-out "extras" are not bothersome enough for me to deny myself single-location access to Google Chat, Facebook Chat, Yahoo Chat, AIM, Myspace, and Twitter at the same time. Not to mention the recently added Global Status updater, which if you haven't guessed already can update your status across all of your social networking connections. I find that to be extremely useful - well, usually. At times I have something different to say on Twitter than I do on Facebook. But that's just how I roll. Quick tip - if you're a member of LinkedIn, and like myself you're not particularly reserved with your comments on various other social networks (i.e. "FTW! It's the weekend, bitches!"), then you probably don't want to include that in your Global Status updates. I'm just saying. For those who aren't feeling the look, the feel, or just don't want a program that has any type of optional crapware built in, there are other great options out there.

Mint.Com

I hate finances. I hate them with a passion. I hate keeping track of receipts, I hate balancing my checkbook. I just hate it all. I hate worrying about whether or not I'll have enough at the ATM (though of course that's the point of balancing the checkbook - or maybe that's a completely different "financial problem"). So I decided to give Mint a try, to see if maybe it would make tracking my finances a little easier. See, here's the thing. It turns out that when you track your finances - like really, really see where your money is going, complete with graphs and charts dedicated to your fast food runs and DVD purchases - it makes you feel really crappy about all the money you're potentially flushing down the McTube. But as a result, you can begin to make smarter decisions about how you spend your money. Especially when you take that (extremely easy) extra step of creating a budget for yourself on the website. Right now I've got budgets on how much I want to spend per month on fast food, DVDs, gas (we'll see how that one works out), and how much I'll allow myself to spend on clothing over the course of a 3-month period. Sounds like way too much work, huh? I know it does. I'd say the same thing if I didn't already know that this took me all of 30 seconds to put together. Mint is easy, Mint is helpful, and of course we all know what my favorite thing is about Mint.

J. Rawls & John Robinson (Jay Are) - The 1960's Jazz Revolution Again

There's a lot of good music coming out these days. There are a lot of artists I could be linking to up here. There really are. In fact, there are quite a few that you should probably play catch up on. But for now, I'll drop this one on you. I would imagine that anyone who's reading this blog doesn't know about J. Rawls. I'll just say that when or if you have a conversation with someone about connecting today's music with yesterday's music - or more specifically bridging the gap between jazz, r&b and hip-hop - J. Rawls is the first name that should come up. Well actually, Native Tongues is the first name that should come up. But if we're talking about this era of hip-hop, and who's leading the way in the next revolution of hip-hop, J. Rawls should definitely be mentioned. His Liquid Crystal Projects were seminal recordings in the jazz-hop movement (at least on this side of the water), and he continued to bring great artists to the forefront with his "The Essence Of Soul" record. Now he returns with John Robinson to create what, after several listens, in my opinion may eventually be considered one of the most balanced, well-rounded and overall dope jazz-hop albums of our time.

Matter fact, while we're at it ...

A3C 2009

A3C Hip Hop Festival

This is Atlanta's premier hip-hop festival. When I tell you tons of artists are in the building, I mean TONS of artists are in the building. I attended all 3 days of A3C last year. Just reviewing the official mixtape and off the top of my head, I can say for sure that I caught The Clipse, Little Brother, Jeru The Damaja, B.O.B., The Fresh, The AB's, Nobody Famous, Blu, Wale, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante, Akrobatik, Binkis Recs, Senor Kaos, Mojo Swagger, and a bunch of DJ's. Not to mention I caught a few very fresh b-boy battles. 2009 is looking to be even crazier. They've already got quite a few heavy hitters lined up, including 9th Wonder, Killer Mike, DJ Drama, and the one and only Rakim. This just might be unmissable.

MixMeister Studio

I've been test-driving this software for a while now. I can definitely say this right here is top notch. I used to make my mixes in Adobe Audition (still my favorite audio engineering software), but when it comes to putting together a collection of songs and creating a groove, a flow, an upbeat party mix, or even a downtempo relaxation mix, there just may be nothing better than MixMeister Studio. Automatic tempo matching + fine-grained levels of editing = greatness. I've seen the light now. I don't think I can ever turn back.

And of course ...

Complex's 10 Hottest Multiracial Women

nicole_scherzinger

There were several comments in the replies section that indicated many, many missing choices for hottest multiracial women in the world. I can't help but agree with a few of them - mainly because I'm not into skinny bitches - but one person made an excellent point that this wasn't a list of hottest bi-racial women, but rather multiracial women. Of course one could go on to argue that more than likely someone that tells you they're bi-racial probably is only pointing out perhaps the two more popular of their multicultural background, but these arguments are highly unnecessary for a popcorn "look at these hot women" blog. The bottom line is this: if you don't think Nicole Scherzinger is one of the hottest women on the planet, then you should probably start looking at men. This message goes out to straight men as well as the lesbian community.

That's it for now. Keep on keepin on!
